Jackie Naylor

Jackie NaylorJackie was born in the front room of her family home in a small village in Surrey in 1951 (the fourth of nine children) and was educated in Church of England and Catholic Schools in England and Ireland where she learnt to embroider, knit and sew from age 5.

Jackie performed with Ngati Ranana for many years in England, Canada, Scotland, Ireland, Belgium, Holland, Italy, France, Sardinia and Spain making kakahu for Ngati Ranana and other kapa haka groups and performance artists.

On trips to New Zealand her Ngai Tamanuhiri and Rongowhakaata whanau tutored her in harakeke weaving and plaiting and Jackie has run flax flower weaving workshops at the British Museum in London, the Women’s Institute, Libraries and continues to do so at many other groups in the UK.

Now “retired” to the heart of the English countryside in Oxfordshire after 44 years working in Government, IT, HR and Education, Jackie’s passions are still kapa haka, Maori arts and crafts and making contemporary Maori inspired kakahu.
