Jeanine Clarkin
Contemporary Maori Images blended with exciting textiles create the signature style for designer Jeanine Clarkin.
Having lead the way in Maori design for the past two decades her unique style evolves with time. Her collection hopes to take you on a journey through seasons and hemispheres, with solid winter wool pieces.
Jeanine has exhibited internationally in Sydney, Samoa, Hawaii, London, Geneva, and extensively throughout Aotearoa.
Having started designing at a young age, Clarkin was an early entrant in the Benson and Hedges awards and has won a number of other awards in Pasifika, Kakahu Design and Cult Couture. Her clientèle is the A-list of Aotearoa including Movie and TV stars, politicians and Maori, and her designs are seen on the likes of Cliff Curtis, Keisha Castle Hughes, Stacey Morrison, Louisa Wall, Nanaia Mahuuta and many more.
When Clarkin is not designing she is curating exhibitions which have shown in Sydney Wellington, Paeroa, Auckland and Waiheke Island where she currently lives with her 10 year old son Noa.
This collection looks at the shapes created in Tukutku work and structures around the Wharenui and its symbolism representing the Tinana, as well as the themes of colonisation and lands for ‘blankets’ creating contemporary high fashion.
