Natasha Lewis
Having started a life of dancing at a very young age on the island of Mangaia, Cook Islands, Natasha has taken the Cook Island style of dancing to stages all around the world. After starting a family in the late 90’s and moving to the UK, Natasha co-foundered the only UK based Polynesian Dance Troupe Beats of Polynesia. Beats of Polynesia was formed to celebrate the beauty, the unique vibrancy and the richness of the Pacific Island cultures, in particular of course, the Cook Island culture!
For the London Pacific Fashion show, Natasha has decided to challenge herself to designing something completely new and has joined forces with her very close friend Granny Hale (nee Pataanga), also from Mangaia Cook Island but now Brisbane based, are going to portray the traditional Cook Island art of Tivaevae in a new and modern way.
Granny Hale, now a full time mum, is a past entrant in the Auckland Pacifika Fashion Show and holds her Cook Island traditions and culture very close to her heart. She is also now looking to broaden her horizons and move into the new and ‘modern’ world of contemporary design.
